Eli Helman (b. 1978) is a self-taught artist with a style of ink drawings he calls Maximalism. Emphasizing intricately drawn lines, shapes and patterns, he explores eclectic subjects through a blend of whimsical and thought provoking imagery. Inspired by music, humor and nature he hopes viewers will find something new every time they gaze upon his work. All original works are drawn by hand with Micron pens on drawing paper. Some pieces take over 100 hours to complete.
Eli grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts before moving to Washington, DC to attend college at American University. In 2003 he moved to Tucson, Arizona where he began drawing with mechanical pencils while working on various music projects. In 2006, he moved back to Boston where he began refining and evolving his style with black ink pens. Today he travels around the country showing his work at art festivals. He lives in western Massachusetts.
